Our Review
Editor’s verdict
1xBet is one of the largest sportsbooks in the world by sheer market and event coverage, but its licensing history and a long list of regulatory bans (UK, US, Russia, France, Spain) and unresolved player complaints mean it's a materially higher-risk choice than a UKGC- or MGA-licensed operator. Its Trustpilot rating has been suspended for a guidelines breach.
1xBet was founded in 2007 and has grown into one of the largest online sportsbooks by market and event coverage, backed by heavy sponsorship spending (Barcelona, PSG, FIBA) and an unusually large sports and payment-method catalogue. It is not, however, a straightforwardly "safe by default" brand: it has lost or been refused licences in several major regulated markets, and carries a documented history of regulatory action and unresolved player complaints that a reader should weigh before depositing.
Sportsbook and casino
The sportsbook covers 50+ sports and a reported 60,000+ monthly events, with a deep market list on football (Asian handicaps, player specials, cards) and live betting with cash-out. The casino side runs alongside it with slots, live dealer tables and 1xBet's own in-house games. Availability of specific products (casino vs. sportsbook only) varies by the country you're signing up from.
Licensing
1xBet's operating company, Caecus N.V., previously held a sub-licence under the old Curaçao eGaming master licence (number 1668/JAZ). That licensing structure was phased out when Curaçao consolidated its gambling regulators, and Curaçao eGaming stopped issuing or covering new operators. Caecus N.V. now holds a direct licence from the unified Curaçao Gaming Authority, licence number OGL/2024/1262/0493, granted 7 November 2024 — we verified this against the regulator's own certificate lookup and 1xBet's own published legal information, and updated our records to the current number.
A Curaçao licence is a real, active authorisation, but it sits at the lighter-touch end of the regulatory scale compared with the UK Gambling Commission or Malta Gaming Authority — lower barriers to entry and less proactive supervision. A 2025 leak of internal Curaçao Gaming Authority records also raised questions, still unresolved publicly, about who ultimately controls the company behind 1xBet.
Where 1xBet is restricted or banned
1xBet does not operate legally everywhere it might be discoverable online. It has been refused or has lost licences in several major regulated markets: the UK Gambling Commission revoked its licence in 2019 after a Sunday Times investigation found it had promoted illegal content and accepted bets on prohibited events. It is also blocked or prohibited from operating in the United States, Russia, France and Spain, has been fined in the Netherlands for unlicensed operation, and is blacklisted by regulators in Belgium, Greece, Sweden and Lithuania. If you're outside a market where it holds a real local authorisation, treat any access to the site as unregulated.
Regulatory record and reputation
Beyond licensing, 1xBet carries a documented history worth knowing before you sign up. A 2019 investigation found it had promoted illegal gambling content; a 2024 investigation by Bellingcat and Josimar reported fabricated live-streamed "matches" involving minors used to generate betting markets. A Curaçao-focused player-advocacy group has also documented complaints of withheld winnings. Its Trustpilot page currently shows its rating as unavailable due to a breach of Trustpilot's own guidelines, with over 8,500 reviews on file regardless. None of this means every player has a bad experience, but it is a materially heavier history than most operators we review.
Payments and withdrawals
1xBet supports a very wide range of payment methods, weighted heavily toward cryptocurrency (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Tron, Dogecoin and more) alongside cards, bank transfer and e-wallets. Reported withdrawal times vary sharply by method and verification status: crypto and e-wallet withdrawals are commonly reported within 15 minutes to a few hours once an account is fully verified, but a first withdrawal, a large payout, or incomplete KYC can push processing to 24–48 hours. Player reports also describe verification delays stretching well beyond that in some disputed cases.
KYC and account verification
Identity verification is required, standard for a licensed operator, and typically involves uploading ID and proof of address. Multiple independent player reports describe verification taking longer than the platform's own stated timelines, particularly around larger withdrawals — worth being aware of before you deposit an amount you might need back quickly.
