Every brand here has a UK Gambling Commission authorisation we’ve matched to the regulator’s own record. We also show who actually holds the licence, because that is rarely the name on the homepage.

Who actually holds the licence

A UKGC licence belongs to a company, not a brand. When you search the register, the company name below is the one to look for.

Skill On Net Limited

2 brands

UKGC account 39326

On the public record: the Gambling Commission fined ProgressPlay Limited £175,718 in 2022 and £1,000,000 in 2025 over anti-money-laundering and social responsibility failings, and required a third-party audit. Its licence remains active. Worth knowing before you deposit at any of its brands.

Check a licence

Search by brand, legal operator or account number. This searches our own records, not the regulator live, so confirm on the Gambling Commission register before you rely on it.

  1. 1. Find the company name in the site’s footer or terms, not the brand name.
  2. 2. Search that name on the public register and note the account number.
  3. 3. Check the activity. The authorisation must cover what you’ll use, for example remote casino or remote betting.
  4. 4. Check it’s current. Status can change; read the live record, not an old article.

How we verify a brand

  • Match the legal entity. We take the licence claim a brand makes and match its operating company to a record on the Commission’s public register — the brand name alone is never enough.
  • Link, don’t label. A confirmed licence is stored against the real UK Gambling Commission record in our database, not typed in as free text, so “UKGC” can’t be added as a loose tag.
  • Record the reference and date. When the register shows the account number we store it, plus the date we confirmed it. Both appear on the brand’s card and review.
  • Leave out what we can’t confirm. If we can’t verify a claimed licence we don’t list the brand, however popular it is. We re-check records over time and remove a listing the register no longer supports.

What a UKGC licence does and doesn’t tell you

The UK Gambling Commission regulates commercial gambling in Great Britain under the Gambling Act 2005. To advertise to or accept Great Britain customers online, an operator needs a remote licence, and every licence carries the Commission’s rulebook: identity and age checks before play, anti-money-laundering controls, GAMSTOP, advertising codes and a route to independent dispute resolution. Authorisations are granted per activity: Remote Casino (online slots, table games and live dealer), Remote General Betting (online sports and event betting, including in-play), Remote Bingo (online bingo), Remote Betting Intermediary (betting exchanges that match customers against each other).

  • It isn’t a quality score. Two licensed operators can differ hugely in payout speed, support and bonus terms. That is what our Trust Index measures.
  • It isn’t permanent. The Commission can suspend, revoke or add conditions at any time, so we date every verification.
  • It doesn’t remove risk. Regulation governs how an operator must behave. It doesn’t change the financial risk of gambling.

For the score, see the Trust Index. It is separate from licence status: a high score doesn’t make an operator UKGC authorised, and authorisation doesn’t set a score.

UKGC vs offshore licences

Offshore licences are real, but rigour varies by jurisdiction. Here is where the baseline actually differs.

UKGC licensedOffshore licensed
RegulatorUK Gambling Commission, a statutory body under the Gambling Act 2005.Varies (Curaçao, Malta, Kahnawake…). Oversight and enforcement differ a lot between them.
Identity checks (KYC)Identity and age must be verified before a customer can deposit, bet or play. Some regulators require the same, others are less prescriptive.
Self-exclusionParticipation in GAMSTOP, the national multi-operator scheme, is mandatory.Depends on the operator; not uniformly required.
ComplaintsUnresolved complaints must be referred to an approved ADR provider after 8 weeks, free to the player.A regulator-approved dispute route isn’t guaranteed.
Enforcement recordPublic register and published regulatory actions, including fines.Transparency varies widely by regulator.
Lawful for Great BritainThe only lawful route to advertise to and accept Great Britain customers.Often reachable in practice, without the legal backing or recourse of a UKGC licence.

Frequently asked questions

What does “UKGC licensed” actually mean?

The operator holds an active authorisation from the UK Gambling Commission for the activities it offers, for example remote casino or remote betting, which are licensed separately. It puts the operator under the Commission’s Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice: identity checks, anti-money-laundering controls, responsible gambling requirements and advertising standards. It is a regulatory status, not a quality rating.

How do I check whether a casino is UKGC licensed?

Search the legal company name, not the brand name, on the Commission’s public register. A brand is often a trading name for a different registered company, and matching the two is the step people most often skip. Our checker does the same lookup against our own verified records; confirm on the register before you rely on it.

Why do several brands share the same licence number?

Because the licence belongs to the company, not the brand. White-label operators run many brands on one platform and one licence, so the register lists each brand as a domain under a single account. The “Who holds the licence” section on this page groups the brands in our directory by licence holder.

Does a missing licence number mean a brand isn’t really licensed?

No. “Licence reference not recorded” means the number isn’t captured in our database yet. We only mark a brand UKGC authorised once it is linked to a genuine Commission record; the number is an extra detail added when the source shows it. The operator’s footer or the public register will have it.

Can an operator be licensed for casino but not sports betting?

Yes. Remote authorisations are granted per activity. A brand can hold a casino authorisation and have no betting authorisation, or the reverse, which is why the directory lets you filter by product.

What is GAMSTOP and is it mandatory?

GAMSTOP is the UK’s national self-exclusion scheme: register once and you are blocked from every participating UK-licensed site for a chosen period. Participation is a condition of holding a UKGC remote licence, not an optional extra.

What is ADR and when can I use it?

Alternative Dispute Resolution is an independent, regulator-approved route for a complaint the operator hasn’t resolved. If it remains unresolved after 8 weeks, the operator must refer you to an approved ADR provider, at no cost to you.

Are financial risk checks and deposit limits mandatory?

The Commission is phasing in gross deposit limits and credit-reference-based financial risk checks at set thresholds. Deadlines and scope have shifted during the rollout, so we don’t print fixed dates here; the Commission’s own guidance has the current position.

Does UKGC licensing cover Northern Ireland?

Not in the way it covers Great Britain. The Gambling Act 2005 applies to England, Scotland and Wales, and gambling regulation is devolved in Northern Ireland. The one overlap: advertising remote gambling into Northern Ireland without a UKGC remote licence is an offence under the Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Act 2014.

Can a UKGC licence be suspended or revoked?

Yes. The Commission can suspend, revoke or add conditions to a licence, and publishes regulatory actions and fines. That’s why every listing here carries a verified date. Treat it as the date we last confirmed the record, not a guarantee that it still stands.

Does a UKGC licence guarantee a casino is safe?

No. It puts an operator inside a regulatory framework with real enforcement behind it, which is very different from none, but licensed operators still vary in payout speed, support and bonus terms, and gambling always carries financial risk. Use the licence as one checkable fact, and our Trust Index for the wider picture.
